…reminding you, “this way.”

From your pregnancy, to birth,
to your baby’s first birthday party, we’re there.

By starting her birth work experience as a labor and delivery nurse, Michelle has met hundreds of humans just like you- parents standing in the doorway between earth and heaven, excitedly awaiting and preparing for the arrival of their heart in baby form. When your eyes connect and the whole room melts away as you silently ask, “Can I do this?” … to be able to give you a resounding, “YES- and here’s how,” in that holy moment in time when you decide to swim instead of sink- that is the place Through the Waves was formed, from knowing the innate support you need in your most precious moments.

our philosophy

We keep you centered through your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum so you can move with the current rather than be swept away by it.

michelle Delacastro, through the waves founder

As a labor and delivery nurse, Michelle DeLaCastro saw how policies, timelines, and urgency can drown out a family’s intuition, and how a dedicated advocate can radically change a family’s experience and trajectory into new parenthood. She founded Through the Waves with a vision to change the entire perinatal experience, so fewer families carry trauma from birth and postpartum, and ultimately be seen as individuals, be more informed, and holistically supported.

We are nurses, doulas, and mothers who have walked this path ourselves. We can anticipate what you need before you can form the words. As your guides, we walk your family in a meaningful way, offering knowledge, compassion, and holistic care; not only for the birth itself, but for the entire journey surrounding it.

Because birth is sacred, transformative, and meant to be experienced, not just lived through.

Just know, we see you.

Standing in your kitchen, scrolling endlessly through a feed riddled with “advice.” We’ve been there, through births that go to plan and births that go wildly sideways. We’re there to hold you through it all. Our doulas are prepared to guide you and your partner, both physically and emotionally, through the most transformative experience of your life.

You were never meant to do this alone.

Most of our clients deliver in hospitals. We won’t replace your medical team but we’ll help you communicate with them, understand what is being offered, and stay connected to your plan.

Our clients are matched with a small doula team that shares the same philosophy and works together. Coverage is built in, so you are never left alone if labor starts in the middle of the night or runs long. You meet and work side by side with your team from day one, and they stay with you from first call through delivery.

FAQ

We’re here to answer all of your questions. Have another? Contact Us.

  • We recommend hiring your doula in the second trimester, but you can absolutely bring a doula on board even in the last few weeks of pregnancy. The earlier we begin, the more time we have for calls, in-home preparation, and building a supportive relationship so you feel fully ready and confident.

  • Yes — hospital births are our specialty. As a labor and delivery nurse, Michelle saw firsthand the incredible impact continuous support can have on families. That experience inspired her to become a one-on-one doula, providing evidence-based guidance, reassurance, and cheerleading throughout your hospital birth and to build the team of doulas we have today. Our goal is to help you feel empowered and grounded, no matter what unfolds.

  • Support begins in pregnancy with evidence-based education and guidance. We bring a wide range of tools, distill information, and help you understand what’s most relevant for your body, your preferences, and your support system. During labor, we provide hands-on comfort measures, practical tools, and a calm, steady presence. We also highly value the support we can bring to your birth partner, helping them show up in ways that feel natural and effective.

  • You won’t ever be left alone. We will be with you throughout your birth, from beginning to end. Continuous support is our standard, from your first call through delivery.

  • While birth support is our primary offering today, our agency is growing to provide full-spectrum postpartum and holistic care. Soon, this will include lactation guidance, nutrition support, and integrative practices to help families thrive after birth.

We understand that this time can be full of questions that can feel impossible to answer alone.

Will my partner remember how to help me breathe, and know what affirmations to repeat to me when contractions hit? How and when should I move from the bed to the birth ball or to the shower so I can find relief? What will a contraction actually feel like, and how will I know I’m doing it “right”? Are there steps I can take to avoid a C-section, or to feel in control if it becomes necessary?

That’s why we’re here. We saw a need for both parents to have a trusted partner with them throughout the entire process - someone when things feel chaotic, can guide you through the waves.
